Atlanta Regional Commission “Pop-Up" Meeting


This is a good example of:

Opportunistic use of vacant space to take planning to the people

Narrative:

Breaking the mold on public meetings (and relying heavily on social media) the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) hosted an unusual “pop-up” meeting to discuss updates to its $59 billion Regional Transportation Plan.

On the day of the meeting, the storefront’s windows were plastered with signs that read: “You Are Here.”  The former restaurant was set up with maps and stations explaining transportation, funding and ARC’s recommendations.  Feedback from the event indicates that participants appreciated the nontraditional approach and the event attracted many people who might not have attended a formal meeting.
